Pregnancy is a magical time where you are growing life, and that’s amazing! While it is amazing, becoming a mother can come with a host of stressful things, as well. So, making sure you are staying comfortable is key. The last thing you want to worry about is what to wear. If we’re being honest, by the third trimester, you might not care as much how you look–you’ll probably just care about being comfortable. The fit, fabric, and how you feel are all key when building your maternity wardrobe. Here are a few necessities for your maternity wardrobe.
Comfy Dresses
One of the very best things you can buy yourself during pregnancy is a comfy dress. Sweet Salt’s maternity gowns are perfect comfy yet stylish dresses that you need during your pregnancy. You can even get a maternity dress that is nursing friendly too! So you’ll be able to wear your dress even longer.
Loose Fitting Shirts
Early on in pregnancy, it can be fun to wear tighter shirts to show off your baby bump. However, as you get bigger, it’s best to get looser fitting shirts. They’re much more comfortable, and as your baby gets bigger, the loose fitting shirts will become tighter. By buying shirts that are a little looser, you’ll save yourself from having to buy more shirts since yours will get too small. A looser fit is also just way more comfortable.
Pants and Maternity Bands
While having comfy pants is super important, some ladies opt to continue to wear their regular jeans. As your belly gets bigger, your legs might not, so the jeans will fit for a while. However, the areas around your waist and hips will expand. Some ladies do the rubber band trick where they put a rubber band around their jeans button and pull the rubber band through to keep their pants looser. However, this can get uncomfortable after a while.
You can also opt to buy a maternity band or belt. Maternity bands almost resemble a tube top, but they go around your pants and hips. They can hide your unzipped pants, while keeping your pants up. The bands also give your stomach and back a little extra support. If you don’t like the idea of a lot of moving pieces, you can also buy maternity jeans that have a band built right into the pants.
Shoes with Good Support
We know they aren’t the cutest, but trust us. You want shoes with really great support. Since you’ll be gaining weight, there will be a lot more stress on your bones and joints. While you might’ve been able to get away with cute shoes with no arch support before, spoiler alert, you won’t be able to get away with wearing those in the second and third trimesters. So, do yourself a favor and get yourself a really good pair of athletic shoes with a lot of cushioning. Your ankles will thank you later.
Don’t Forget the Accessories!
Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean that you can’t look cute! So, make sure you rock necklaces, earrings, purses, etc. As a bonus, since accessory size doesn’t matter, you’ll even be able to use them after you have the baby. So, go crazy on your accessories. They’ll help you make your staple dresses and tops look like you have tons of maternity clothes– because you’ll be able to make them all look different with your accessories.
No matter what you decide to wear, just make sure you’re comfortable. Once you have the baby, you might even still wear some of those maternity clothes. So, make sure you love them and feel great in them too!
